Abstract
Purpose: To compare the efficacy of dispersion-formulated Sunitinib (D-SUT) and Axitinib (D-AXT) eye-drops with an intravitreal (IVT) injection of Aflibercept in a mouse choroidal neovascularization (CNV) model.
Methods: Tyrosine kinase inhibitors, SUT and AXT, are aqueously dispersed by our proprietarytechnology. Four groups of C57BL/6N mice with laser-induced CNV were treated: [control (PBS);IVT], [Aflibercept; 20μg/μL; IVT], [D-SUT; 0.05%; eye-drop BID], and [D-AXT; 0.05%; eye-drop BID]. Fundus fluorescein angiography was photographed by Micron-IV after 10 days of treatment.
Results: Despite the absence of an invasive method into vitreous humor, D-SUT and D-AXT eyedrops showed remarkable suppressions of blood vessel lesion. The bestselling IVT injection, Eylea, suppressed the lesion by 32% and the comparable outcomes were confirmed with D-SUT and DAXT eye-drops, suggesting their potential as a promising non-invasive solution.
Conclusion: We have demonstrated the outstanding efficacy of D-SUT and D-AXT for neovascular age-related macular degeneration without an invasive method, but as patient-friendly eye-drops.
